I don't know if my method is the Best Practice, but here I go. I have a hierarchical system, with three main groups of tags: People, nature and genres. The number of levels varies.
Under People I have three subcategories: People, culture and activities. Under People> People I have any people who are significant for me. One category for family, and one for friends. You i.e Jostein are under People> Friends> Photogeeks> Jostein :-) I'm also using two event categories under People. One for family or friends gatherings, and another for cultural events. Cultural event can be anything from a night at the opera, to a football match with the son of Marits cousin. Football are under People> Culture> Sport Another important category under people are activities. How about i.e architecture or fancy cars? For me, that's culture because they are made by humans. Complicated? Maybe. But for me this makes sense. The downside of this system is that it makes a lot of categories and subcategories. All together it makes a lot of keywords. The good side is that it works. By using a hierarchical system I can hide all irellevant keywordsin Lightroom. I.e. I can hide all my bird keywords, when working with People. I'm also able to narrow down the selection at different levels. I.e. you Jostein, can I find when browsing photogeeks in general, or by using you name. -- MaritimTim 2009/9/10 AlunFoto <[email protected]>: > Guys 'n' Gals, > > I'm currently looking into switching to Lightroom as my primary > archiving tool, and am fascinated by the ease of applying keywords. > However, I also realise that I'd like to stick to a *limited* list of > keywords, and that the list better be correct and updated. > > So I would like to request the collective wisdom of the PDML on how to > manage keywords.
