Assuming a disk utility fail you could use a linux boot tool to get rid
of the fat partition. Parted Magic is less than 100mb, and does a fine
job out of a pendrive (SD cards too).
You could have a damaged disk - I had some issues with a 500gb MyBook,
earlier this year.
