A friend of mine lives in SF, off of Potrero, and has an amazing view from the porch on the top room of her house. Every time I visit, it seems that I'm compelled by the view to pull out the camera and get shots of the Bay Bridge.
Last night, I also aimed the camera more directly west and got what I think are some fun shots. K20, FA31, ISO 100, f/1.8, 20 Sec, Tungsten color balance: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/4019428138/sizes/o/ Any suggestions for improvement? Unfortunately, I didn't remember until right now, that I wanted to try using a polarizer at night, but that probably only works when shooting on a moonlight night, rather than a night when the clouds are lit by city lights. It's from the set: http://www.flickriver.com/photos/ellarsee/sets/72157622478964035/ 11 frames, basically 3 variations on three shots. I think that it's a good thing that it didn't occur to me until I was already on the drive home that the view over the bay from her porch could be really nice at sunrise. Although, with scattered clouds, sunset could be nice too. Maybe get some color in the sky, and with luck the bridge lights would already be on. I was wanting to play with something a bit wider, but my 18-250 was in the car, and not as sharp as I'd like for this shot. Or maybe I'm just looking for excuses to by the 16-50 when I have money again. -- The first step is learning to take great photos, the second step is learning to throw away ones that are merely good.
