All the benefits of digital are worthless if it doesn't sound
as good as the LP version, the problem is most people have no
clue how good the LP version really is/was, and THINK the CD digital
is as good as it gets when often its just mediocre. You might
be able to "live with" mediocre if you have never heard the
originals, but if you have, you wanna take the CD and toss
it in the garbage.

Regarding hearing, if you can tell the difference between
a stereo and a real band live in front of you, and nearly
everyone can, even with "poor" hearing, there is still room for
improvement in your recordings and your playback system.

The thing not to forget is with LPs you still need a good
phono rig and good playback rig. On cheapo gear the difference
between CD and phono disappears and everything sounds same/
bad/phony.

Subject: Re: OT: Vinyl vs. Digital

One of the minor benefits of deteriorating hearing is that
I don't feel tempted to go back to vinyl - I couldn't hear
the difference. In any case, vinyl is like using film; a little dust
can all too easily negate any benefits.

And digital is so much more convenient; I'm about to hop
on planes for ten hours of flight time; an MP3 player is
easy to slip into a pocket, and you can get an awful lot
of audio into 8GB of memory (even without extra SD cards).
