I'm going to buck the trend and say don't bother.
Save the money and put it towards a nice lens to go with it.
Or treat it to an ERC :-) (cheap at half the price!)

I succumbed to the grip temptation once, and bought one for my Minolta 
600si. When the grip arrived, I looked at it and thought - what on earth 
did I buy this for? So it's never been used.

Okay, so it uses cheaper batteries, but it's just more bulk to lug around. 
It maybe looks "the business" too, but that sort of thing doesn't bother me.

I'd give it a try without first. You can always buy one later if you change 
your mind.
