I think the B&W  version works best - perhaps you could nudge the
contrast up a bit but not  much.  I think colour would have worked better
earlier or later in the  day, although I don't know the location and
excessive shadows might be a  problem - it just looks a bit flat  in
colour.

I felt it could use more punch too, but didn't want to over do  it. And, 
yes, it was mid-day light which isn't that great in color shots.  

It takes a while to get to all the places in the park, and I reserved my  
sunset shots for El Captian, and didn't make any sunrise shots (which would 
be  good). Actually, to take everything with sunrise or sunset shots, or late 
 afternoon shots, one would have to spend a five days to a week in the 
valley.  Mine was a running two-day trip. (It's also a tad expensive. Maybe 
someday,  maybe, I'll be able to stay longer.) Really, a month would be good.
