Hi, Frantisek ...

I have this lens, although I don't use it very often, so my comments
should be taken with that in mind. I seem to use focal lengths on
either side of it more. I recently shot a couple of rolls with it in San
Francisco. The weather was overcast, so a lot of shots were at
apertures wider than f/8.0. Not having used the lens for a while, I was
a little surprised at the results. They were a little better than I
expected. Thus far I've only made a few proof prints with sizes running
to 8x10, but I was quite satisfied with the detail rendered, even though
I was using TX and a dichro enlarger. Fine detail was rendered quite
nicely, and at the aperture I was using - mostly 4,0, 5.6, and 8.0 -
there was no observable light fall off at the corners, and corner detail
rendered appeared to be reasonably sharp, although I did crop some of
the photos, so I only had one that I printed full frame, but that was
printed on 5x7 paper, and is probably not as good a test as the
larger-sized prints.

I've recently acquired a condenser enlarger, and I may soon make a few
larger prints from those negs using it. It will be interesting to see
the differences that a different enlarger head, and different enlarger
lenses, can make.

I'm a little disappointed in the build quality. The aperture ring is a
little sticky, although that can easily be cleaned and freed up, and
while the focus is smooth, it doesn't have the silky smoothness of
earlier Pentax lenses. A list member sent me a K28/2.0 to try out, and
the inevitable comparison is soon to come. One comparison I can make
right now is that of size and weight. The A28/2.0 is quite a bit
smaller than the earlier version, and I like that aspect of it very
much. It's easier to pack and use. Both lenses are considerably
smaller than the 24mm, and more suited to the type of photography I do,
and to my personality.

I think the K28/3.5 might be a little sharper, but I've not made a
direct comparison between it and the A28/2.0. The A is, however,
superior to the M28/2.8 - a real dog, IMO, at least compared to the
other 28mm lenses I've used.

I've never used any of my 28mm lenses with color, so I cannot comment on
color rendition. I've got a roll of slide film that has a few exposures
left on it. Maybe I'll blast off a few frames just to see what
differences I might notice.

HTH,
