Contrast has a lot to do with - apparent and measurable - sharpness. In the MTF measurement sharpness and contrast are inseparable and actually it is the same with traditional test target. When you increase the frequency - the lpm - in the end you will not be able to detect the finer detail and contrast also approaches zero. All the best!
