I decided to check out high speed sync with my K20D and AF540.
Am I missing something or does it only work in p-ttl? It seems that I can
crank the shutter speed up to 1/4000 with the flash in p-ttl, but in
manual it stops at 1/180.
Not really sure, I can't think of any technical reason to disallow it
completely.
What manual power level are you using?
Remember HSS loses (a lot) of power, so you'll never be able to get full,
and at high speeds it'll be very low indeed.
So perhaps try setting 1/16 or something and see if it changes anything.
