Treasured features resulting from fortunate accidents often result in value worth preserving. "Do it over" may not be the answer.
I was responding to the "frames ... could be cloned out ... pixel by pixel ...".
I don't see a problem with the family photos being in the background of the family photo. It's part of the character of being a family. I agree with you about "value worth preserving."
But, if an uncluttered background is wanted in this case, "do over" would be my preferred method over tedious photoshop work. Creating something new rather than removing something that was there.
