The doorway is about 3m tall; none of the shots that included a person for
scale worked.


I remember seeing a painting of the Spalentor in a Basel hotel, captioned "Das schoenste Tor in die Stadt." (The most beautiful gate in the city.) It is quite striking as you come upon it - a lovely medieval remainder. Thanks for the photo and
the reawakened memories.
