I thought I sent this about an hour ago, but it never showed up in my
mail queue so pardon me if this is a repost.
The short form is that optically the lens does what I need. It's wide
and fast, and in the lighting situations that I'll be using it, the
optics aren't the weak link in the system. In bright daylight it may
not be as sharp as the DA 21/3.2 but when I'm shooting dancers at ISO
3200 f/1.8 at 1/8-1/15 second, that extra stop and a half comes in
very handy.
I'm not sure why, but this lens seems to have quite a bit of "punch".
I don't know if it's more contrast, or the autotone in lightroom
compensates for it having less contrast. I think that I'm hooked on
having something of this length and speed.
I've examined the focus a bit more, and it seems to bind up every time
the focus drive turns to the same position (one end of the slot at 2
O'clock), almost as if one of the gears is a bit off of center.
