I take the position that I won't harm sentient beings. That's my cut off.

Don't ask me to explain, justify or rationalize it. That's my position.

Now you (collectively) can start with your slippery slope arguments:
"What about (for instance) sea cucumbers? They probably can't feel,
can they? If they can't feel, why not harm them? I heard that fish,
although they have a nervous system, don't feel pain. Does that mean
we can eat them?"

It matters not. I don't have to justify my choice. You'll all have
to live with the ramifications of your individual decisions. But you
all knew that already, didn't you?

Look, you can all eat whatever you want, for whatever reasons you
want. Eat veal, shark fin soup, buy cans of tuna caught with nets
that also drown dolphins. I'm "voting with my feet" as it were. I
will not do that stuff, nor will I eat or buy anything that's derived
from animals.

I'm done with this thread (I know I've said that before, but this time
I really really really mean it. For keeps. The end. Infinity. And
you can't get any longer than infinity, can you?).

=============
Cattle ranches are one of the biggest causes of degradation of the
environment around. I don't feel like googling how many acres it takes to
support
one cow vs how many vegetables could be grown instead.

I did google greenhouse gases, cattle account for 18% of CO2, outweighing
transportation. (That was in 2006, so I bet it's higher now.)

I like beef, I eat beef, but I am fully aware how ironic that is, since I
care about the environment.

You eat what you want, frank, your choice.

I think some people's defensiveness springs from denial about various
issues, but that's me. I mean, I am not defensive about eating beef
occasionally. I do because I like it. I eat more chicken than beef, though,
because I
feel the environmental impact of chickens is less.

However, I suspect STRONGLY that some day there will be fewer meat/poultry
choices for the rest of us -- the non-vegetarians. In other words, the
amount of beef raised and eaten today is not sustainable.

Have a Nice Day!, frank.
