"Gave" is a good word, Frank. Often people would give something to
someone, in exchange for something else. Interestingly enough, in
everyday Russian - when you pick up something from the shelf in the
department store, you say "take", like in "Boris, please take a bottle
of beer for me", or "Frank, I took a white bread"... While in principle
it should be "buy" instead of "take"...
