'E' & 'F' work for my 2 external drives - not very creative but not taxing
on my mind either.

I formatted my new Seagate 250 ext hard drive this morning and did not

Can i name it some how or do i need to do the reformat again.
You should be able to rename it whenever you want without reformating
it.
You can rename the volume any time you want.
- click on the volume icon in the Finder
- press the return key
- type whatever name you want
- press the return key
The hardest part is coming up with the name. Choices!
Should I name it creatively, like "Orange Jesus" taking a chance I'll
forget why or what it symbolizes?
Should I name it logically, like "Internal iMac Drive" so there will
be no doubt about it?
Should I name it after my pets? School chums? Lagers? Work groupings?
So many choices, so little time!
