While the modification to use "puffin" was entirely appropriate,
and a brilliant interpolation into the ongoing thread, I have to
wonder if some people think the entire concept was original.
Originally it was "chicken", not "puffin". I've even seen this
form on a bumper sticker.
AFAIK the earliest appearance of this joke (though in a rather
less pithy form) was in "Eric", by Terry Pratchett.
Ninety percent of originality is recognizing a line worth stealing.
