I don't have a K-X kit lens in hand, but I do have the version which came with the K-m, and it's the same lens. It is reported to be optically identical to the Mark II. However, note that in addition to having a plastic lens mount it does not have QuickShift focusing and lacks a distance scale on the barrel, and does not come with a hood (another $20 from B&H...). It looks and feels cheaper than the regular Mark II version, but it works just fine.
