If you could alter the shutter actuation count by inserting a memory card with an altered file name, shutter count would be useless beyond all repair. eBay wouldnt have a single camera with a shutter count of 10.000 or higher... If I may make a recommendation, use exiftool etc to read out the shutter count and set your file count to the next increment once you've made work the method to do that. I will try it too when I get home tonight and give you feedback.
