Kinda nice and you taught me new slang - or did you make up "tube steak"
for sausage?
I remember hot dogs being called "tube steak" when I was a child. Sort
of hillbilly chic. Some people couldn't afford real steak, and giving
hot dogs a fancy name kinda' made up for it in a joking kind of way ...
almost.
Of course, that was way back when, long before people got conscious of
what went into making hot dogs. They were delicious, with mustard,
ketchup, chili & onions, especially if there was a baseball game to
watch while you were eating them, but probably had a lot of things
they're not allowed to put in there today, and that you wouldn't want to
know about anyway.
The other meanings alluded to didn't seem to come into use until after I
was an adult, but maybe they were there and I just didn't get the joke
when I was a kid.
