Aluminum and durability do not necessarily mean much if you drop a lens. Just marketing words. However, your lens won't rust! :-)

Run your finger around the camera end of the lens's mount. If it feels like plastic, steel, or aluminum, it's not water-resistant. If it feels like rubber, it might be. Several lenses were made with this rubber ring that were not WR, just precursors to the WR lens series. Those were missing the seals in other parts of the lens assembly that would keep the rain out of the interior of the lens.

That leaves reading the instruction book to see if it's listed as WR.

I've had my K20 and the 60-250 out in a downpour for an hour, and it looks like it survived with no ill effects. I wiped it all down with a towel, and didn't open any doors or take the lens off for a couple of hours in case there was water in the seams.
