Ended up using the DA*50-135 pretty much wide open.
That's pretty much what I used at the basketball game last Thursday.
Pentax K20D, DA* 50-135/2.8 @ 85mm, Monopod ISO 1600, 1/180 sec @ f/2.8 http://www.daytonphoto.com/PAW/swgame02_0064.htm
