It's a huge improvement.

I'd also like to see more in focus, though maybe the focus point is just a little far back, because it looks like some of the wood behind the face is in focus, while the top of the face, which is closer, isn't.

The raw conversion settings were indeed off. the white balance was set
to "None" which obviously did not help and a couple others were not
where i remember putting them.

this is the shot as converted by the new settings:

maybe a bit bright but will see what i can do about fine tuning.
