On 29/1/10, John Coyle, discombobulated, unleashed:

>the "walk" which every interview seems mandated to include (Cotty?)

You mean a shot of the interviewee walking along? Basically needed to
overlay a line of intro into the interview. An alternative is a 'two-
shot' where the camera moves back and gets a hot of both interviewer and
interviewee from behind the interviewer. The problem with this is that
if the interviewer is not the person actually 'pulling the package
together' (later editing it and voicing it) then it might be a different
sex reporter. Looks better to have the same sex person voicing the item
and stood in the 2-shot.

I know one or two politicians who refuse to do a walking shot because
they actually rarely get used - more of a safety shot than anything. But
if you don't do them and they need it in editing, the cameraman will get
bollocked.

It is easy to do a walking shot poorly, which is why they look crap.
Mine are always brilliant of course ;-)
