It's a small state, but I'm a good 30 miles from the site of the
explosion. Looks like it was pretty big, the effects were felt in a
15~20 mile radius.

Most people seem to have thought it was a sonic boom or an earthquake
depending on how far they were from the scene. Connecticut seems to
have developed a nimby atttitude about any kind of industry so just
about every industrial endeavor seems to end up in an isolated area.
Power generation used to be done right were it was needed, (I did some
night shots of an abandoned Power Plant less than a mile from down town,
New Haven, (Yale University etc.). If they had built this thing there
it would have made power delivery much easier, but had much more
/interesting/ consequences in the current event.
