One reason to buy an electronic version of a manual is the media itself. I generally prefer reference materials that I plan to use to be in a machine readable format.
I also collect ephemera like manuals and of course for that, only the real thing will do. And the one Pentax sends for $4 is just a Xerox copy. Worth the price if you want a paper copy.
