Utter nonsense. American revolutionary forces were organized armies that took direct action against British troops. Undoubtedly, both sides acted against civilian populations to some extent, but the American Revolution was as much a war as any other of the time.
Well, they did overthrow the legal government of the day, and they didn't have a recognized army at the time. You can't have it both ways no matter how much you want to play both sides of the fence.
