My Field Guide to North American Birds lists the Gallinules, but it's not pictured. It must be fairly obscure. Simply identified under "Bird Families" in the same paragraph with Rails and Coots. Therefore, I gladly accept Ann's word that it's a Purple Gallinule. Rare catch!
