A friend and I were once subjected to the "we've opened it, so we have to finish it" routine. Luckily, our hosts were more sozzled than us to start with and were oblivious to the fact that their house plants were getting a damned good watering with high quality ethanol. 1.5 litres later, we left an extremely favourable impression of the alcohol-handling capabilities of the average Englishman.
