Mike Wilson and I travelled from opposite ends of the country today to meet in the middle at Manchester for the Don McCullin exhibition at the Imperial War Museum North: <http://north.iwm.org.uk/server/show/nav.24321>
A great exhibition, well worth the journey. Catch it if they let you in. We arrived at the museum and decided to have coffee and cake before going in. We got no further than 2 metres into the exhibition proper when the fire alarm went off. So everyone trudged outside to admire the Libeskind architecture of the museum for a while. We then went back in and the alarm went off again. It was faulty, so they had to call an engineer. Having arrived there at 11.30 am we didn't actually get to see the exhibition until 4pm. Fortunately Mike's not as dumb as he looks, and we took off to another museum he knew about, called MOSI <http://www.mosi.org.uk/>, which is full of fantastic steam engines and big machines that move a lot and make plenty of noise. Also old cars, bikes (motor- and push-) and aeroplanes such as Spitfires and GE Lightnings, so it was a great day. Having not been to Manchester since I was a student there nearly 35 years ago I didn't recognise any of it at all. However, I think I now have to go back to see the Leonardo exhibition at the MOSI. Damn. Anyway, if you get the chance, go to the Don McCullin. Not only are the photos superb, but there is also a great display of some of his property associated with different parts of his career. Including the helmet he wore in Vietnam. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
