Amen to that. My Dawes Galaxy touring bike is as nice a ride now as when I bought it new in 1973. I had to completely strip it down and go over everything to clean and lube it a couple of years ago, and I've replaced the original steel pedals because of too much rust.
I was considering replacing it at one point, but after test riding what's out there I came to realize that I'd only be happy with one built just like it (and not aluminum) and that looks like $2K and up, so I'll stick with 'old Mr Dawes. :-)
