Steve. I used my istD for IR photos solely, after getting my K10D. It worked very well with the Hoya R72 filter. I had no intentions of opening the camera up and putting a filter inside, i wanted to use the camera again.
My istD and Nikon D1 did a good job, but as the MP went up, on both Pentax and Nikon cameras, the sensativity seemed to go down. I sold my istD after i bought my G3 off ebay that was conveted to IR. Should have kept it as the G3 is not wide enough at times. Here is the shot from the istD in 2006 that won me a 2nd place prize.
