Not only that, but it's the *4th* state this has happened in. Amazon
clearly saw this coming when the 1st state tried to pull this stunt
and they decided "we might lose a few battles, but we're damn sure to
win the war", so, cut off all the affiliates each time a state
attempts the tax trick, and just wait it out until the states figure
out they can't pull this one off and eventually stop trying.

More likely they'll finally end up with is a *NATIONAL* VAT on ALL internet transactions, collected by the Federal Government and the revenue being distributed to the states.

I think you're half right, I'd say we'll end up with a national sales tax, with the income spent by the federal government faster than it's collected. However that doens't preclude borrowed money being distributed to the states.
