My old Metz 40MZ-2 (or something like this) has a secondary light source. It also has two slide on gray filters to control the output of this source. I use it fairly often when photographing kids in Galia's class - it eliminates eye shadows, adds a bit of sprinkle to the eyes and generally is useful. It is especially useful when tilting/swiveling the flash because in my case it usually means underexposure due to specifics of the way this flash integrates with my camera.
