Hi, The Independent has (or had) quite a few staff photographers. I can't remember the full story, but Harris, who'd been with the paper since it started, and the editor had a falling out during the Independent's lean years and they fired him, I think. They recruit from colleges and offer internships as well as I think 1-year paid employment to the cream of the graduates. Since Brian Harris's work features quite regularly again I guess he's back on good terms with the paper now.
I've just found this, where the story is covered in outline: http://photography.about.com/library/weekly/aa072699.htm --- Bob mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Wednesday, January 23, 2002, 11:02:02 AM, you wrote: > In a message dated 22/01/02 22:18:25 GMT Standard Time, Bob writes: > << In a lecture I went to Brian Harris talked > about the shock he underwent when he parted company with the > 'Independent' and had to start paying for his own gear. >> > When you say "parted company", presumably you mean "became an ex-employee" ie > freelance?
