I don't have any snappy retorts, but my own view would be just to let it go.
Reading about your portraiture class reminded me of a one day portraiture
seminar I took--it was all a bit surreal. Like you I was the only Pentax
owner.
--A Nikon shooter asked "what's magenta?" after the instructor finished
making some comments on color and white balance.
--During lunch, a Canon shooter disclosed to me in great confidence that she
was a bit nervous because she had just bought the camera & was shooting a
wedding the coming weekend; I do belive it was a Rebel.
--Another Nikon shooter hogged positions when we got to shoot a model--so
much so we all had the photog's various body parts in our frames.
--At one point, the instructor put a question out to the women attendees:
"Ladies, why do women where make-up?" I almost walked out after that one.
