We had a very fun trip on Saturday. John and I shot with Pentax,
Candice with Canon and Kam brought a Canon DSLR and a Leica 35mm.
With three full on motorheads plus one who enjoys photographing cars,
we started out at Canepa. As it turned out there was a guided tour
going on of the museum that we were able to tag along with, so in
addition to seeing some very pretty cars, we also got to hear some
great stories about the cars. This was followed by a guided tour of
the shop, a workspace that would make just about any gearhead green
with envy.
After Canepa, we went to one of my favorite greasy spoons for lunch.
We then stopped briefly at the Alba Schoolhouse on our way to
Boomeria, spending most of our time photographing the 45 rank pipe
organ, but also getting some shots of CIC, the engine room and the
outside of the castle. Unfortunately, we couldn't go into the castle
as it was being repaired after a tree fell on it during a big storm
last weekend.
We continued on to the coast, spending a fair bit of time on the beach
at Waddell creek. I'm afraid that the perfectly clear blue skies
weren't terribly photogenic, and as one might expect, the mid
afternoon light wasn't ideal either. Somehow we managed to suffer
through the nearly too warm spring weather despite these hardships.
As we were leaving, we're pretty sure that we saw a whale a couple
hundred meters off shore. I tried getting some shots with John's
80-200, but if any turned out, it was just a fluke.
We hit Panther beach for sunset, spending an hour or so there, then
retired to Pearl of the Sea, a new Sri Lankan restaurant for a very
nice dinner. All in all it was quite a pleasant day.
I'm still working on sorting and processing the shots from the day,
but these snapshots should give you an idea of the inclement weather
we endured:
