The problem with the Ammo enclosure is that it is only USB2. If that's
sufficient for you, it looks good. It's a $40 enclosure, which isn't
bad, a 500G laptop drive is $65-90 so it's about a $130 portable
drive.

The portable drives I'm most impressed with lately are the Iomega eGo
line.  USB2/FW400/FW800 interfaces, 500Gbyte, shock-protected and also
about $130. FW400/800 generally speaking outperforms USB2 by a healthy
margin, I always prefer using it when I can for hard drives.
