My book of the year 2009 was The Discovery of France by Graham Robb, which is a very well-informed and entertaining 'historical guidebook' of France. It won the 2008 Ondaatje Prize.
<http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2007/sep/09/historybooks.features> Robb is a Professor of French, I think, and knows France from the saddle of his bike, having pedalled thousands of miles around the country. Coincidentally, he shares my birthday but he is one year younger than I am. Probably speaks better French too. Bastard. His new book is just out, and seems relevant to some of the OT conversations we've had about Paris recently. It's called Parisians - An Adventure History of Paris. <http://www.amazon.co.uk/Parisians-Adventure-History-Graham-Robb/dp/03304524 44> Here's a review: <http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/books/bookreviews/7521268/Parisians-by-G raham-Robb-review.html> Bob -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
