Of all living physicists, this one is probably the most known to non-scientists. He is one of the most known popular science advocates. On Monday, we had a dedication of the Hawking Auditorium in our new university building. So, I had a chance of taking a photo of him: http://www.komkon.org/~igor/PHOTOS/Mixed-2010/Hawking.jpg There were several (4-5 + a videographer from the local TV station) news photographers It was rather crazy seeing how many people wanted to have their picture taken with the famous guy. To me, it was also rather sad to see the physical state of this person and the fact that his physical appearance causes such an interest. Everything was much more low-key when yet another famous scientist Roger Penrose ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Penrose ) visited the same building where Penrose tiling was installed ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penrose_tiling ).
