Actually a black velvet cloak would work rather well. For anyone on the list
who still has enough self-respect not to wear such a thing, a simple piece
of black velvet in the camera bag would be sufficient. An A-frame can be
constructed quite easily from local materials following the instructions
provided in the Collins GEM SAS Survival Guide, a copy of which is assumed
also to be in every photographer's bag.
The other option is always to travel with a large black umbrella, as does
Nick Crane, and use that to provide shade. It would also be useful for
fighting off wild dogs, but obviously it couldn't do both at the same time.
You'd need 2 umbrellas for that.

So to sum up, the well-equipped flower photographer should wear a stove-pipe
hat and black velvet cloak, always carry a large umbrella and be proficient
in SAS-style survival skills.
