At first, I was ticked off that DOF preview required battery power.
Then I realised that the previous system was probably not mechanical,
either.

Not mine. That's halfway through shooting with the self-timer.
No hood on the kit lens.
(BTW, Canon hood for kit lens £12.00; Pentax hood £28.00)
Don't buy it and be happy. A friend of mine bought the optional hood,
and suddenly got worse reflections that not using the hood.
(apparently, the inner part of the hood is not matte enough, so that
it reflects extra stray light onto ther lens)
Useful to know.
