Yeah, if you don't have an ME-F, you either need to return it to Adorama or
keep it to auction off on eBay as a rarity that a collector might want.

Hi "gfen",

That lump is a focusing motor, not a battery pack.  This is the autofocus
35-70/2.8 which was specifically designed for the ME-F.  I don't believe
these will autofocus on any other AF body.
