I guess it's just "a collector thing" - <g>. In most of the older Pentax manual focus bodies (both screwmounts and K-mounts) that came in both black and chrome, the black ones were less common. So, with most of 'em, the black ones earned a slight to moderate premium price increase over the chrome ones. However, with a few bodies (and the ES and ES II fit this exception), the black ones predominated, so that the chrome bodies ended up garnering the higher prices.
