Gets your attention. Many parking spot painted signs are very badly worn and difficult to make out, especially in rainy weather. All such spaces, as I understand it, at least in California, must have a sign at the head of the space at 'prox eye level, to make a fine actionable in the event an unauthorized (non-sign carrying) vehicle mistakenly parks there.
