For my DA 18-55, Tamron 70-300, and FA 50/1.4, I don't use protective filters except in the worst conditions (salt spray, etc.). If something bad happens to those lenses, I'll kick myself, but I could afford to repair or replace the lens if I had to. For my DA* 300/4, I keep a Hoya HMC Super UV filter on it. Paying for that lens once was hard enough. The lens performance is excellent with the filter, and I have not been able to detect any difference in optical quality with it on or off. I'm sure it helps that I always shoot that lens with the big, deep hood on, and it's not the kind of lens where the midday sun is likely to be in the shot. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
