Hi,

there's a short interview in today's "Independent" with Pennie Smith,
whose photo of the Clash (Paul Simonon smashing a guitar) was just voted
best rock & roll photograph of all time. Here are some highlights:
"enthusiasm is the key. I'm not technically grounded [...] I didn't know
equipment from the back of my arm [...] taking a picture is all about
interpreting what you see - full stop. It doesn't matter what you use,
even a throwaway camera [...] I still use [...] an old Pentax ESII
[...] having a compositional eye helps: I never crop photos and don't spend
hours posing them [...] you just hope that the light behind them comes on at
the right time, and take a picture"
