You can get very close to the water.  In fact, you can wade right in.

I was on high ground because it was a calm day, and I wanted the
reflections, because I was on my way to and dressed for church, and
because my primary mission yesterday morning was to capture images of
three diners in that area and have breakfast at one, in connection
with my diner blog.
