> Although this is a macro lens, is the M 100/4 a good, excellent > lens for general telephoto use?
Hi, Francis. (I'm basing the following on my experience with the A 100/4 Macro, which is supposed to be optically and mechanically identical.) It's a good lens for use as a general 100mm lens (and, of course, it's is always ready for any unexpected macro shot - <g>). It seems to be quite sharp, and I do believe it's as good at infinity as it is close-up (not true with all macros, especially older ones, but true for this one). It's slow, of course, for a 100mm prime, but its f/4 speed is not much different from what many zooms have at this FL. I think the bokeh may be a little harsh. Build quality is quite good. It's lighter in weight than it looks, but seems to be quite rugged. It (the A version, anyway) has a nice focus feel, and the focus ring is quite generous. Well, those are just the thoughts about the M (A) 100/4 Macro that came to mind. Fred - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
