Now for the RB67 repairs. Last October I was a little careless carrying
my RB67 from the car into a motel, trying to cradle it in my arm while
carrying too much in my hands. I turned around and the camera fell,
hitting the concrete lens first and narrowly missing my foot. The lens
had its hood and lens cap on, which took minor damage, but the impact made
the lens mechanism very "stiff". I'm not sure if it should have hit my
foot to save damage; that would have really hurt.

The repair quote was about NZ$530 which is more than the lens is worth so
I decided I had nothing much to lose by trying it myself.

During the week I managed to get the thing apart after some guidance from
a photographer whose first job out of school was fixing Mamiya lenses.

After two evenings of almost constant swearing trying to straighten an
aluminium plate which had been slightly bent, I managed to get the lens
back into working order (and not by getting the plate fully straight:). I
reassembled the lens this afternoon and after a couple of minor hiccups,
which were fixed quickly, it's now in good working order.

So I now have a bit of knowledge about Mamiya lenses, including a
recommendation to leave lens repair to the experts, and I can now sell the
RB67 kit to raise the cash for a new Pentax 67 75mm f/2.8 lens :)

Cheers,

- Dave...
