That's hi-speed mode. The synch switch is just to the left of the on/off switch. I usually shoot in aperture priority mode when working that way. If you can't get shutter speeds over 1.180th, your flash may not be fully engaged in the foot. Sometimes, I have to clean the contacts a bit and make sure the foot is fully inserted.
